Sims-Skins & Mesh Renamer

Since Hot Date, some skins can be bought in Downtown or on Vacations island, as formal wear, winter, swimming-suit, lingerie... To make your old skins available for Hot Date (or new ones that aren't converted, or... whatever you want! ;)), you need two things:
1- renaming the .BMP files to change the first letter of the name; it's pretty easy to do manually, but when you have hundreds of skins, it's nice to have a tool to automatize the task; it's SkinRenamer's job.
2- renamig the matching meshes (.CMX), as skins need both .BMP (the texture) and .CMX (the mesh, ie the shape of the body and the clothing). It's MeshRenamer's job.

Skins Renamer
What does it do?
It converts your skins files (BMP) as buyable items for expansions packs (Hot Date, Vacation, SuperStars), by changing the first letter of the file name.

*** Note *** :It doesn't convert your skins for Mac, for this, you still need Skin Shrinker, made by Cherie Benoit. SkinRenamer only works with files that have been already converted for Mac.

How does it work?

-1-

Choose the type you want. In this example, we will convert normal skins to formal skins, buyable in Hot Date, so we select the F (Formal).

- 2 -

Prepare a folder where you put all the .BMP files you want to make available as formal wear for Hot Date. You can work on copies of your skins, if you still want to have these skins available for the Sims, without any expansion pack.

- 3 -

Drag your folder on the window of the application.

- 4 -

Et voilà! It's done. You have now to rename the meshes with MeshRenamer, and you'll be able to shop for your new skins in Downtown! :)
In this example, we'll need to rename the following CMX: B001fafat, B249fafat, B341fafit. The skins (BMP) always need to be associated with a mesh (CMX) that has the same number and letters.

Don't forget to install these skins into your Skins folder! ;)

Sims-MeshRenamer
What does it do?
It converts your mesh files (CMX) as buyable items for expansions packs (Hot Date, Vacation, SuperStars). It changes the first letter of the .CMX file, and edits its content to match with its new name. When you want to distribute a mesh, don't forget to join both .CMX and .SKN (the .SKN file doesn't need to be modified to work with expansions packs. A same SKN can be used by different CMX).

*** Note *** :It doesn't convert your skins for Mac, for this, you still need Skin Shrinker, made by Cherie Benoit. MeshRenamer only works with files that have been already converted for Mac.

How does it work?

- 1 -

Choose the type you want. In this example, we will convert a normal mesh to formal mesh, buyable in Hot Date, so we select the F (Formal).

- 2 -

In a folder where you store meshes (it could be in the Sims/GameData/Skins folder or another one), select the mesh you want to convert, and duplicate it (Command-D).

- 3 -

Then, back to MeshRenamer, click on the button "Select a .cmx file"

- 4 -

Select the .cmx you have duplicated (with its "copy" suffix)

- 5 -

It's done. The application explains you what it did.

- 6 -

You need now to delete the "copy" suffix of your edited .CMX. When you want to install it to the game or to redistribute it, don't forget to join the matching .SKN.
Matching SKN have the same number and the same first characters as the CMX's name, but its name begins by "x-skin". Note that a same .SKN can be used by different .CMX, so if you move the .SKN, make a copy.

Don't forget to install these meshes into your Skins folder! ;)
